Optimizing Care for Rectal Cancer
The 3rd Annual Ira Kodner Lectureship welcomes Patricia Roberts, MD, Chair of the Department of Colon-Rectal Surgery at the Leahy Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts and Associate Professor of Surgery at Tufts University. Presented by Providence Cancer Center, this conference is intended for health care professionals only.
Dr. Roberts will:
- Discuss the optimization of multidisciplinary care.
- Discuss the relationship between specialty training and surgical outcomes.
- Review the experience of the New England colorectal cancer quality initiative.
- Discuss the advances in neoadjuvant treatment for locally advanced rectal cancer.

Stepping Forward
“Survival Tools for Managing the Emotional Changes Following a Cancer Diagnosis”. Two 1 ½ hour classes to assist patients and family members recognize the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis and gain skills to cope with the changes. Call 474-5490 to register. Times and location vary to accommodate patient needs.
Breast Cancer Support Group
An open group for women with breast cancer to come together to share the experience and issues encountered. 1st and 3rd Wednesday each month. 6-8 p.m. Holy Family Hospital, 5633 North Lidgerwood, Emergency Department Conference Room (use North Emergency Department entrance/parking). Cancer Support Group

Rectal Cancer Education and Support Group
Meets 4th Tuesday 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Holy Family Hospital, 5633 North Lidgerwood, Health Education Center, Room 6. An opportunity for discussion with guest speakers representing health care issues. For information: 474-5490.
Couples Coaching “Balancing Life”
This opportunity consists of three, one-hour sessions over a six-week period to talk with a trained health professional about how cancer is affecting your family. Couples also learn new skills to comfort their children, to manage the daily hardships incurred by the cancer, to balance family life with illness and to reconnect as a couple.
